About the Journal
Commentary and Critique is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal that provides a forum for the critical examination of social science research, with a particular focus on public policy and economics. Commentary and Critique is committed to the principles of free speech and unfettered academic discourse.
We do not restrict the freedom of expression of any author who submits to our journal. We will not edit or censor the content or expression of any manuscript, as long as it meets our only criterion: that the speech is non-abusive, non-malicious, and does not harm any bona fide third party.
We embrace the open exchange of diverse viewpoints, welcoming expressions across the spectrum of political, economic, philosophical, and social thought. From liberalism to conservatism, capitalism to communism, atheism to theism and feminism to gender equality, we offer a platform for nuanced discourse. We refrain from assigning labels to articles, content, or arguments, recognizing that public dialogue and thoughtful exploration for fostering individual understanding. Similarly, we discourage critiques and counterarguments based on generalizations or dismissive terms. Instead, we promote the writing of rigorous, fact-based responses that engage constructively with a diversity of perspectives. We endorse vigorous intellectual debate conducted with civility and respect, and commit to publishing all articles in good faith.
We believe that the free exchange of ideas is essential to the advancement of knowledge and the betterment of society. We encourage authors to submit their work to Commentary and Critique, regardless of their position or opinion.
Aims and Scope
Commentary and Critique publishes original articles that offer critical commentary on social science research. We welcome submissions that engage with a wide range of topics, including- Public policy, Economics, Political science, Sociology, Anthropology, Law, Education and History.
Submissions
Word Count and Scope:
- Submissions should be between 2000 and 3000 words in length.
- Submissions should focus on topics within the scope of Commentary and Critique, which includes public policy, economics, political science, sociology, anthropology, law, education, and history.
Examples of Submissions:
- Analyze one or more recently published articles in an academic journal, providing a critical evaluation of their methods, findings, or implications.
- Explore a specific issue within a subject area of interest, drawing on relevant research and offering your own insights and perspectives.
- Engage with methodological debates or challenges in social science research, proposing new approaches or solutions.
Key Considerations:
- Submissions should be based on sound research and evidence, with appropriate citations and references.
- Critical thinking and constructive analysis are essential, with a clear argument or perspective being presented.
- Submissions should be relevant to the journal's scope and contribute to the ongoing dialogue in social science research.
All submissions to Commentary and Critique are double-blind peer reviewed.
As a fully open access journal, Commentary and Critique charges an APC to cover publication costs.
However, Under the 2023-2024 funding policy of funding bodies, there are currently the following exemption policies-
- Authors from the UNESCO-defined Central Asia region.
- Graduate students/researchers who do not yet have a stable salary income (Master's students, Ph.D. students and visiting scholars).
- Authors who have received an invitation from the editor.
Above policies allows researchers who meet the above criteria to contribute their valuable insights to the journal without financial barriers.
APC (Open Access and Financial Accessibility)
Commentary and Critique is committed to open access, meaning all published articles are available for free to readers worldwide.
To cover publication costs, we charge an Article Processing Charge (APC). However, we recognize that financial barriers may prevent some researchers from contributing their valuable work.
Therefore, we offer the following exemption policies:
- Researchers from UNESCO-defined Central Asia region: Authors from this region are exempt from APC fees.
- Early-career researchers: Graduate students, Ph.D. students, visiting scholars, and other researchers without a stable salary income are eligible for APC waivers.
- Editor invitations: Researchers directly invited by the editor to contribute a specific article are also exempt from APCs.
